We Make a Difference
The Teague Family Story
Tim Teague is a 40 year old single father of three, Hailee – 16, Kendella – 13, and Trent – 9. The house they rent for $400 per month is in major disrepair and the landlord refuses to make repairs. The porch is not anchored to the house and is in danger of falling down. The brick walls swing back and forth. Upon entering the home, the curtains are all closed in an attempt to keep out the cold air from the rotting window frames which could easily be pushed out. There is no ductwork for heat in the upstairs bedrooms and the two teenaged girls sleep on the couch in the living room for warmth. The boy shares a bedroom with his father. There is little or no insulation and their heating and cooling bills are nearly always over $200 a month. The ceiling is falling down, the roof needs replacement and there are buckets everywhere upstairs to catch the drips when it rains. There are extension cords all over the house due to few electrical outlets; bare wires exposed which could result in fire. The drywall is falling down as is the guttering. A drain needs replacing in the kitchen sink. The house is definitely substandard and the family has great need.
This is a father who is hard working and is trying to provide a decent life for his children. His son has ADHD and has behavioral problems. He is very patient and calm with his son. This family is very deserving of the hand up for which Habitat for Humanity of Hopkins County has selected them. They have been through some rough times and now have something wonderful to look forward to. We will begin their home in late 2009 or early 2010.
